NEW DELHI: Amid demands for his resignation from the Union Council of Ministers, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad met Congress president Sonia Gandhi here on Thursday evening. But Congress sources maintained that it was a "routine meeting'', adding that it was normal for Mr. Prasad to meet Ms. Gandhi a couple of times every month. This week, two Left supporting parties the Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Forward Bloc have demanded Mr. Prasad's resignation after charges were framed against him in a Jharkhand court in a fodder scam case. Earlier in the day, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi met Ms. Gandhi. This meeting was also described by the Congress leadership as "routine''. "Since Mr. Karunanidhi was in the city to attend the United Progressive Alliance meeting on Wednesday, a meeting was planned between him and Ms. Gandhi to discuss matters relating to the coalition.''
