DIFFERENT STROKES: The artist G. Rajendran leads a painting camp being held at Peechi near Thrissur by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi.
THRISSUR: A painting camp being held at Peechi, near here, by the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi will conclude on Friday. The director-in-charge of the Thrissur station of All India Radio, T.T. Prabhakaran, will present certificates to the participants. The five-day camp, led by the artist G. Rajendran, has brought together 12 artists from Thrissur, Malappuram, Palakkad, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. "Interaction between artists is crucial to the development of art. The Akademi camp was organised for this purpose,'' says Mr. Rajendran. Discussions at the camp focus on changing sensibilities. "Such camps help up-and-coming artists keep abreast of developments in the world of art," says K.C. Anoop. Conventional notions are being questioned at the camp. Mr. Rajendran initiated a debate over the study of anatomy. Is study of anatomy important for an artist? Most answered in the affirmative. "An artist, however, should not be restrained by conventional notions and methods,'' says K. Babu Namboodiri. Slides of the works of Vincent van Gogh are being shown and video films screened.
