The chief coach has been really impressed by the commitment and determination of the players
HYDERABAD:
Captain Sneha Singh is confident that the Indian team will perform well in the fifth Asian youth girls' volleyball championship, beginning at Cebu (Manila) on May 24.
"The seven-month camp at Vizag helped us to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the team. We hope to improve upon the fifth place we obtained in the last edition," said Sneha, the central blocker.
Chief coach T. Pramod Kumar Reddy also hopes the team will do well in the championship.
"I am really impressed with the commitment and determination of our players. Since most of them are making their international debut, the zeal will help the team's cause," he said.
The coach is banking on setter Akshita, libero Suma Hegde and spikers Pavithra, Sowmya and captain Sneha in the key position.
Three girls in the side U. Kavitha, Mounika Reddy and Swapna are from Andhra Pradesh.
Former Chief Minister, N. Janardhana Reddy, who is also Chairman of the Organising Committee of the World Youth volleyball championship to be held later this year, presented kits to the team here on Thursday.

Sneha Singh (captain), Minimol Abraham, Teena Jain, K.V. Pavithra, Sowmya Devi, U. Kavitha, Aruna Tomar, S. Swapna, A.K. Akshita, E. Mounika Reddy, M. Suvarna Kumari and Suma Hedge.
Chief coach: T. Pramod Kumar Reddy. Asst. coach: Ms. Bhanu Prasad.
Trainer: Mohd. Kalander. Tech. delegate: P. Dhananjeya.
Chef de Mission: P.G.V.R. Naidu.
The groupings: Group A: China, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and India.
Group B: Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Australia and Japan. (Top two from each group will qualify for the semifinal phase).
India's matches:
May 24: vs. Vietnam. May 25: vs. Korea. May 27: vs. Thailand. May 28: vs. China.
