Govt. to release seed subsidy from June 1

BANGALORE:
Following a brief spell of rain, sowing has begun in Chamarajanagar and Mysore districts, and the Government is ready to release the 50 per cent seed subsidy from June 1, the Agriculture Minister, K. Srinivasa Gowda, said here on Thursday. He told presspersons that last year, seed subsidy amounted to Rs. 67 crores.
This year, Rs. 32.33 crores has been released, and he has asked the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, to release an additional Rs. 20 crores.
Mr. Gowda said this time the cotton crop on over 2,500 acres had failed in Haveri, Gadag and other districts where farmers used Mahyco's Chamatkar brand of seeds. Mahyco has agreed to compensate the farmers at the rate of Rs. 2,500 an acre, the Minister said.
