NEW DELHI: The Annual Plan for Haryana for 2005-06 was finalised at Rs 3,000 crores at a meeting of the State Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, with the Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, here on Thursday. This includes a one-time additional Central assistance of Rs 25 crores provided for the specific projects of the State, according to an official release. Hailing the State Government for its consistent growth performance during the first three years of the Tenth Plan, Dr. Ahluwalia noted that the contribution of the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors were also satisfactory. During the discussions, however, attention was drawn to the State's adverse sex ratio of 820 -- far below the national average of 933 females to every 1,000 males -- and the State Government was asked to create awareness on this issue by reaching the community at household levels.
Crop diversification recommended
On the farm front, the Commission recommended diversification as a strategy to accelerate growth. This, it said, should include a shift from cereal to non-cereals and move further, beyond crop agriculture to animal husbandry, dairy and fishery. The Chief Minister, in turn, briefed the Commission members on the reform measures adopted by the Government recently. While the staffing pattern in government departments was being reviewed, the public sector units were also being rationalised with complete transparency in fiscal operations. Mr. Hooda, while noting that the road network around Delhi should be strengthened, sought the Centre's support in funding the land acquisition cost for construction of the western periphery expressway. He also sought early approval of the Delhi-Gurgaon integrated rail-cum-bus transit project.
