Kurnool
Staff Reporter
KURNOOL: Raghurami Reddy, a senior Congress leader and close associate of Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy, has been named the Kurnool District Congress Committee (DCC) president. For the first time, a separate city committee has been planned which will be headed by the former mayor, L. Feroz Begum. Mr. Raghurami Reddy told The Hindu that his priority was to restore unity among all Congress leaders in the district. He said for quite sometime, differences among leaders in the district grew, which was not good in the larger interests of the party. Party leaders should unite before the municipal elections and give a tough fight to the opposition parties. "I will not mind even to call on the MLAs and other junior leaders to tell them the importance of unity," he said. Ms. Feroz Begum would lead the city unit. Since the support of the minority voters was crucial in the city to win the election. She had the larger responsibility of ensuring their support to the party, he said. Meanwhile, the nomination of Mr. Raghurami Reddy caused heartburn among some of the close followers of the MP, Kotla Suryaprakasa Reddy. They remarked that the MP had opted for a person who opposed him some time ago while loyalists were neglected.
Decision welcomed
The Minister for Lift Irrigation, M. Mareppa, welcomed the appointment of Mr. Raghurami Reddy saying that he was the most respected man in the district after Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy. He said Mr. Reddy was the right person to lead the party in the local bodies and municipal elections and promised all cooperation to him.
