Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
All lift irrigation (LI) schemes under Nagarjunasagar project (NSP) will be maintained by farmers as is being done in respect of schemes constructed by the Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Development Corporation (APSIDC).
The facility of free power supply would not, however, be extended for the LI schemes for cultivating paddy in the second crop, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said here on Thursday. It was decided that Chief Engineers of NSP and minor Irrigation should repair the schemes and hand them over to farmers through the APSIDC.
An official release said the Chief Minister wanted the exercise to be completed by the year-end. He agreed to provide 12 hours' supply to LI schemes with dedicated power lines.
