Congress activist shot at by Maoists

Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: A Congress activist and a private moneylender were allegedly shot at by Maoists belonging to the Chitravati platoon at Bandalapalli village of Kothacheruvu mandal in the district on Thursday morning.

According to the police, three armed Maoists went to the village around 6 am and fired three rounds at Mahabub Basha (46), when he was on his way to attend nature's call. As all the three bullets fired on him hit him in the stomach and abdomen he collapsed on the spot. The Maoists retreated thinking that their task was accomplished.

However, he was found to be breathing by the villagers who gathered around him within no time, after hearing the sound of firing. He was immediately shifted to the General Hospital here, where he was stated to be out of danger. Doctors removed all the three bullets from his body.

The villagers who accompanied him to Anantapur hospital said that the Maoists had burnt about Rs. 10 lakh worth of promissory notes pertaining to the money lent by him to the farmers in the villages.
