CPI(M) demands pattas for poor

Launches Praja Prasthana Padayatra in Guntur; plans similar yatras all over the State from June 5

GUNTUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), which launched the first `Praja Prasthana Padayatra' in Andhra Pradesh at Guntur, demanded immediate withdrawal of the Government Order banning granting of house site pattas to the poor in municipal towns.

The Rajya Sabha member, P. Madhu, who flagged off the padayatra here on Thursday, demanded granting of house site pattas to those living in Government lands. in the urban areas for a long time.

Talking to the reporters after the padayatra, he said that the Congress Government had gone back on its promise of providing house sites to the poor.

Clarifying that the party's ties with the Congress were not under strain, he said that it had decided to focus on the problems of the people in the urban areas and would launch similar yatras in the State from June 5.
