Guntur
Staff Reporter
GUNTUR: The Andhra Pradesh State Scheduled Castes Corporation Chairman, Wilson, has served a notice on the non-Scheduled Castes occupants of shopping complexes meant for SCs. After a survey of the shopping complexes in Guntur on Wednesday, he said that at least 70 per cent of the occupants were non-SCs. During his surprise visit to the shopping complexes here, he instructed the non-SC occupants to vacate the premises within 48 hours, failing which, criminal action would be initiated against them. Speaking to reporters about the activities of the Corporation, he said it was planning to take control of the vacant lands owned by it and build shopping complexes, amusement parks and poultry farms, to enhance employment potential of the SC youth and to give a boost to the corporation's revenue. The revenue recovery in the district had been satisfactory in the last financial year as it was able to get back Rs. 75 lakhs, unlike the previous ten years, when it was meagre, he added. Revealing plans to start three special schools for the children of Jogins in the State, he said that one each would be set up in Telangana, Rayalaseema and Andhra regions.
Special schools
This would be a bridge school, imparting education for about five years before preparing children for regular schooling, he observed. On the facility of granting direct loans up to Rs. 25,000 without involving banks to the victims of atrocities, he said "the victims in such cases are not in a position to go through the normal procedure to get a loan, because of the trauma they undergo." He also revealed details of the Ambedkar Vidya Prabha Scheme to be launched by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, during his visit to the district on May 26. Under this scheme, educational loans of up to Rs. 3 lakhs would be granted to students pursuing professional courses like engineering, medicine, management and computer sciences.
