GUNTUR: There is a need to create awareness among women about the law on sex-determination test, said the Guntur Zilla Parishad Chairman, Pathuri Nagabhushanam. Speaking at a workshop on the subject here on Thursday, he underlined the need for bringing about a change in the mindset of people on the issue. "Success of the law depends more on effective implementation of the Dowry Prohibition Act, as both laws are closely related," said the Chief Executive Officer, ZPP, P. Sudhakar. The District Medical and Health Officer, M. Sonar Babu, said there were 99 nursing homes and 49 diagnostic centres in the district which were licensed scanning centres. The media, particularly, the electronic, with its programmes denigrating women was one of the causes for the present scenario, said the district president of AIDWA, Srinivasa Kumari.
