An international honour

NEW DELHI: The Chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation, P.V. Gangadharan, has been elected the first Vice-President of the Federation of International Associations of Film Producers (FIAPF) at a meeting held on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, according to reports received here. He is the first Asian to assume this post.

The FIAPF consists of associations and organisations of film producers from 25 countries and is headquartered in Paris. As the first Vice-President, Mr. Gangadharan will be in charge of the film affairs of Asian countries and Australia. An important name in the film world, FIAPF is a statutory body to award status to film festival in different places.

Poetry competition

NEW DELHI: The Poetry Society and the British Council are organising an All-India Poetry Competition that will be open to all Indian poets in the country and on distant shores.

Entry forms will be available at the British Council offices across the country. For net-savvy poets, the forms can be downloaded from the British Council website or www.indianpoetry.org.

The poems entered for the competition will be read by a panel of eminent Indian and British poets who will finally select the prize-winning entries. The entries must be written or translated into English. Entries for the competition must be addressed to the All-India Poetry Competition 2005, The Poetry Society (India), L-67A Malviya Nagar, New Delhi.

The best poem will also be awarded Rs. 25,000, while the second prize is Rs. 5,000. A special prize of Rs. 5,000 will be awarded for the best poem in translation. There will also be two commendation prizes of Rs. 2,500 each.

Theatre club launched

NEW DELHI: Oxford Bookstore launched its theatre club, "Dialogue", in the Capital on Tuesday showcasing three alternative theatre plays. The performance was directed by Parnab Mukherjee, one of the leaders of the alternative theatre movement in India.

"Dialogue" is an interactive forum for an enriching exchange among stalwarts of the theatre world and amateur theatre enthusiasts. This monthly initiative will create a platform for theatre-lovers to perform and discuss various facets of contemporary theatre.

Blood donation

camp organised

NEW DELHI: Huzoor Maharaj Sant Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Ji of Sirsa (Haryana) organised a blood donation and meditation camp at Ramlila Grounds here for two consecutive days earlier this week. Tricycles were also distributed as a gesture to the disabled.

The blood collected at the camp would be forwarded to the Army and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). A large number of devotees also attended a meditation camp organised on the occasion.
