KOLLAM: Novelists Karoor Soman and Babu Kuzhimattom have been selected for this year's Literary Award instituted by the London Malayali Council (LMC). This was stated at a press conference here on Thursday by the secretary of the Council, V. V. D. Panikkar. The LMC Literary Awards are for those expatriate writers in Malayalam based in the Gulf, Europe and America. Mr. Soman was selected for the award for his novel, `Kinavukalude Theeram.'' He was selected for the award by a jury comprising the novelists, Kakanadan, P. Sivaprasad and Mathew Nellikunnu. The professional drama `Kadalkara' staged in 1985 was a novel by Mr. Soman. His other novels include `Karmegham, curtain idu and Saudiyude Mannil.' Mr. Kuzhimattom was selected for the award through a poll. Announcement for the poll was made in a Malayalam newspaper. Mr. Kuzhimattom won the award for his novel `Chathavante Suvishesham.' The novel which was written 25 years ago is still popular as a great work in Malayalam, a statement said.
