MANGALORE: With the State Election Commission announcing the list of reservation for the 35 constituencies in Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat scheduled to go to the polls in June this year, political activity is likely to gain momentum in the coming days. According to the reservation list provided by the district election branch here, 12 constituencies have been reserved for general category, six for general (woman), three for Scheduled Caste, including one for woman, two for Backward Classes and Minorities (BCM-B), including one for woman, 10 for BCM (A), including three for women, and two for Scheduled Tribe, including one for woman. Of the 35 constituencies, 10 are in Mangalore taluk, nine in Bantwal taluk, six each in Belthangady and Puttur taluks and four in Sullia taluk. While the constituencies for Scheduled Caste are at Shirthady in Mangalore taluk and Dharmasthala in Belthangady taluk, the Scheduled Tribe constituencies are at Mani in Bantwal taluk and Aranthodu in Sullia taluk. While six of the 35 constituencies have been reserved for women in general category, the number of seats for them under various reservation categories is 13. This, however, does not prevent them from claiming a share in the 12 constituencies declared as general seats, where both men and women can contest.
