MANGALORE: Ivan D'Souza, a former member of the Syndicate of Mangalore University, has taken exception to the university's decision to rename degree courses. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. D'Souza said the university, following orders of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has decided to rename various degree programmes, which will put students into trouble. Citing some instances, Mr. D'Souza said the university has sought to rename the B.HRD course as BA (HRD). This, he said, is turning a management course into a Bachelor of Arts degree and shifting the programme from the management faculty to arts faculty. Students have been asked to return their marks cards to the university to make the change with the warning that their marks card will not be valid if the change is not made, he said. Mr. D'Souza said the university has failed to carry out its duty to convince the UGC about the hardships faced by students owing to the change.
