21,940 waiting for phone connections

There are 61,364 BSNL cellphone users in Dakshina Kannada

MANGALORE: As many as 21,940 applicants for new telephone connections are in the waiting list of the Dakshina Kannada Telecom unit, which has 250 exchanges. The unit has an equipped capacity of 3,59,164 connections and 2,90,831 connections at present. The district also has 61,364 Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) mobile phone users, according to a press release from the department.

The number of Internet Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) dial-up connections is 13,568, while the Internet Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is 150. The Dakshina Kannada Telecom unit has set up 74 mobile Base Terminal Stations (BTS) in the revenue districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada under its jurisdiction and has drawn up plans to set up 60 more, the release stated.

New stations

The new stations will come up shortly at the following places: Aldangady, Bailoor, Bajagoli, Guruvayanakere, Barkur, Ajjavara, Innagudda, Belthangady College, Belve, Bantwal SVS, Doddathotta, Gangoli, Golthamajalu, Hiriadka, Irde, Ishwaramangala, Kaikamba, Karkala microwave, Katapady, Kakkinje, Kemmannu, Kinnigoli, Kokkarne, Farangipet, Perdoor, Punjalkatte, Darbe, Mandarthi, Shiroor, Siddakatte, Paichar, Suratkal, Uchila, Canara Tower at Udupi. Such stations will also be set up at Kadiyali, Beedinagudde, Venoor, Vogga, Savanoor, Aranthodu, Belvai, Shirthady, Siddapura, Boloor, near Mangalore Railway Station, Anegudde, Kundapur, Kurnad, Kanyana, Usha Jewellers at Balmatta here, Bunder, Shaktinagar, Kadrikambla, PVS Junction, Padavinangadi, Bykampady, Moodbidri, Mudubelle, Neermarga and Panja.
