CONNECTING INDIA: The Principal General Manager of Dakshina Kannada Telecom District, T.N. Sudhindrakumar, handing over a post-paid SIM card to a customer at the inaugural function of a BSNL franchisee showroom in Mangalore on Thursday.
MANGALORE: In an effort to provide better services to its customers, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has decided to appoint franchisees to market its services in seven zones of Dakshina Kannada Telecom District. It has appointed Independent Associates in Mangalore as its marketing agent for Mangalore taluk. Inaugurating the relocated showroom of Independent Associates at Pioneer Complex near the State Bank of India bus terminus here on Thursday, the Principal General Manager of Dakshina Kannada Telecom District, T.N. Sudhindrakumar, said the telecom district has been segregated into eight zones. The process of appointing exclusive franchisees for the remaining seven zones will be initiated shortly, he noted. The franchisees will service the requirements of customers, he said. Describing the franchisee network as one more front of BSNL, he said the aim is to ensure that the various needs of a BSNL customer, be it booking a basic telephone to obtaining recharge coupons for mobile services, are met. S.M. Hegde, Assistant General Manager (Public Relations Officer) of BSNL, said the various services offered by the company would now be available through the franchisees on all holidays, including Sundays. The franchisees will be required to maintain a service register, where the needs of customers will be recorded and attended to on priority. Mr. Hegde noted the franchisees would act as customer service support centres to foster better relationship between the customer and the department. Apart from forms to obtain various services offered by BSNL, franchisees will be authorised to distribute Sancharnet and India Telephone Cards, mobile recharge coupons and even CDMA WLL service when it is made operational. Mr. Kumar and the guests, G.K. Bhat Mave, General Manager, Karnataka Bank Ltd., and K. Venkatachalapathy, Assistant General Manager, State Bank of India, handed over post and pre-paid SIM cards and handsets respectively to customers. Surendra Shenoy and K.M. Shetty, Deputy General Managers, Premanand Pai, managing partner of Independent Associates, were present.
