MADURAI: Jadugar Anand, a star magician, is in the city. Besides making an elephant vanish into thin air, he has as many as 65 tricks up his sleeve for the Madurai audience. Saying his tricks should not be confused with black magic, Mr. Anand adds his shows employ latest technology with laser, audio and video gizmos, and entirely different from that of others. The ace magician says magic is an ancient art that beckons attention. It has to be revived and given a fresh lease of life. Mr. Anand is the president of the All-India Magic Federation, which is campaigning for magic to be recognised as a performing art at the national level and for magic academics to teach the art. Only a handful of States like Kerala and Andhra Pradesh have recognised magic as an art. Mr. Anand will perform his tricks for 38 days from May 20 at the Lakshmi Sundaram Hall. There will be two shows at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
