Water level

MADURAI: The level at the Periyar dam stood at 112.50 feet on Thursday. The level at the Vaigai dam was 30.38 feet with a discharge of 41cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 1,609 mcft. — Staff Reporter

Suicide pact: one dead

A family of three consumed poison at their Harveypatty residence near here on Thursday. While one person died, the condition of two others was said to be critical.

Sudhakaran (35), an accountant with a private firm, his wife, Indrani (30) and daughter, Divya (5), consumed a pesticide owing to family problems. They were rushed to the Government Rajaji Hospital where Sudhakaran died.

Avaniapuram police registered a case.

Two killed in accident

Two persons were killed in a road accident at Avaniapuram near here on Thursday.

A. Hariram (53) and S. Ganesan (45) of Avaniapuram were riding a motorcycle when they were run over by a city-bound Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus from Vilathikulam. The duo succumbed in a hospital.

Austiga Sabai gesture for disabled sportsman

The Austiga Sabai has decided to donate Rs.5000 to Badri Narayanan, sportsman, who was on the look out for a sponsor, at its committee meeting held recently.

He has been selected by the Paralympic Committee of India to represent India at the British Athletic Championship for handicapped persons to be held in Manchester in June. — Staff Reporter
