NEW DELHI: Palestinian National Authority President Mahmud Abbas arrived on Thursday on a two-day visit, even as India expressed the hope that there would be "comprehensive peace" in West Asia. Shortly after his arrival at the New Delhi Airport, where he was received by Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed, Mr. Abbas met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and briefed him on the latest developments in the West Asia peace process. This is his first top-level political contact with Indian leadership after he was elected to the key post held by Yasser Arafat. "We hope comprehensive peace will prevail there [Middle East]," Mr. Ahamed told presspersons. India, he said, always continued to extend its unwavering support to the Palestinian cause. It felt that the peace process should be expedited, Mr. Ahamed said. PTI
