No power today

Due to shutdown at the Saravanampatty and Irugur substations, there will be no power supply in the following areas on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

Saravanampatty substation: Saravanampatty, Velankurichi, Velandipalayam, Kalapatti, Cheranmaanagar, Ammankoil, Chinnavedampatti, Ramakrishnapuram, Sivandhapuram, Akkammal Steel Company, Vellakinar, Urumandapalayam, Somayapalayam, Gounder Mill (MTP Road), Subramaniampalayam, Kanuvai, KNG Pudur, Maniyakarampalayam, Nallampalayam, Lakshminagar, Rathinapuri, Nachimuthunagar, Jayaprakash Nagar, Ganapathi Nagar, Kannappa Nagar, Ganesh Nagar.

Irugur substation: Irugur, Ondipudur, Odder Palayam, Uppilipalayam, parts of Mylampatti, Palla Palayam, parts of Vellanaipatti, parts of Kannam Palayam, Nehru Nagar, parts of Kalapatty, Neelikonam Palayam.

Child workers rescued

The Kovai Child Labour Abolition Support Society and officials of the Labour Department have rescued 34 child workers from gold smithies and a printing press in the city.

According to a release, the raids were conducted at Kempatti Colony, Sundaram Street, Idayar Street, Chetty Street and Ashok Nagar.

Six of the rescued boys were from West Bengal, one from Kerala and two from Tiruchi.

Those who had joined work only for the vacation were put back in the schools.
