COIMBATORE: About 20 cattle were killed and five sustained serious injuries, when a lorry carrying them overturned early this morning at Muthugoundenpudur near Neelambur. According to the police, the vehicle was proceeding from Salem to Kerala. The driver and cleaner who sustained injuries were admitted to a hospital.
Suicide
Three persons of a family committed suicide on Thursday at Perumanallur near Tirupur. According to the police, Suresh (35) and his parents Ponnusamy (60) and Chinnaponnu (55), all natives of Mettur in Salem district, committed suicide by consuming poison.
Self-immolation
Depressed at having failed in the Plus Two examinations, two girls here reportedly committed suicide on Wednesday. Priyadharshini (19) of Madathukulam, who failed in one subject, committed suicide by setting herself ablaze. Azhagu Meena (17), a resident of Vaikkalmedu near here, and a student of Government Girls Higher Secondary School here, failed in two subjects. She committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.
