BANGALORE: The chairman of the Karnataka Media Academy, V.N. Subba Rao, on Thursday stressed the need for ethics in communication, particularly advertising, a field currently witnessing a boom in the country. At the World Communicators' Day celebrations organised by the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) here, Mr. Rao said communication should deliver and ensure value to the people at large. The national president, PRCI, S.D. Reuben said, "Communication is a tool that touches and enhances our lives." Other speakers also agreed that in all spheres of life, it is communication that plays the most important role. K.R. Singh, often referred to as the pioneer of public relations in India, said human voices and communication can change the world. The Commissioner of Police, S. Mariswamy, said, "We may not be good communicators, but the need for good communication is always there." It is on this day that corporate communications began its journey, little over 15 years ago. Since then, May 17 has been dedicated to celebrating communicators worldwide. The day was also used to recognise communication professionals, who have made outstanding contributions. Aravind Sabhaney, director of the Event Management Development Institute (EMDI), was present. Based on their common interests, the EMDI and the PRCI, signed a MoU.
