HYDERABAD: Telangana region struggled to cope with the gruelling heat for yet another day on Thursday while the heat wave abated in coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions with the day temperatures returning to normal. The heat wave will continue in Telangana for a few more days -- an unusual phenomenon since it does not stay over an area for more than three to four days, according to G. Sudhakara Rao, Director, State Met Office. Amidst reports of a spurt in sunstroke deaths, the India Meteorological Department has forecast that arrival of the South-West monsoon will be delayed by a week. This means the monsoon will set in on June 12 in the State. The State's highest day temperature remained at 46 degree Celsius in Medak. Maximum temperatures revolved around 40 degree Celsius at a number of places. They were significantly above normal at some places in Telangana and Rayalaseema and at one or two places in coastal Andhra. Following were the temperatures recorded by the Met office in different places till the 24-hour period ending on Thursday morning: Nizamabad 45.5 C, Hanamkonda 45.1 C, Ramagundem 44.6 C, Nalgonda 44.4 C, Mahabubnagar 44.1 C, Nandyal 43.6, Tirupati 43.4 C, Kurnool 43.2 C, Cuddapah 42.9 C, Khammam 42.8 C, Hakimpet Airport 42.4 C, Anantapur 42.2 C, Nellore 42 C, Bhadrachalam 41.9 C, Ongole 40.4 C, Gannavaram 40.3 C and Kavali 40 C.
