City Railway police rescue Chennai girl

Satya Princy was kidnapped when she was shopping

BANGALORE: The City Railway police on Wednesday rescued an 18-year-old girl, who was kidnapped and brought to the city from Chennai.

According to the police, three women and a man kidnapped Satya Princy when she was shopping with her mother in Chennai.

The kidnappers drove her to the city in a white car. Misleading the kidnappers, Ms. Princy came to the city railway station and called her brother, Babu, in Chennai.

Mr. Babu alerted Thirumangalam police with whom he had filed a complaint. The city railway police, on being alerted by Thirumangalam police, traced Ms. Princy and handed her over to her brother on Thursday.

Two arrested

The R.T. Nagar police on Thursday arrested a man and his mother on charges of harassing his wife for more dowry, which led to her death.

Police said Chamundamma (23) married Gopal five years ago and they had a five-month-old girl child.

According to a complaint by Chamundamma's father, Nagappa Ullal, Gopal and his mother, Chaudamma, allegedly harassed Chamundamma to bring more dowry and also presents for the girl from her parents.

Unable to bear the alleged harassment, his daughter committed suicide on May 16, he said.

The police arrested Gopal and Chaudamma.

They have been remanded in judicial custody by a city court.

Shops burgled

Three shops in a commercial complex were burgled in Kumaraswamy Layout police station limits on Thursday. The burglars took away cash and other articles totally worth Rs. 25,000.

Police said the miscreants first broke open the main door of a readymade garment shop and took away 30 pairs of garments.

They later entered a construction firm and a cosmetic shop and took away cash and several articles. Police have registered a case.

Chain snatched

Two motorcycle-borne persons relieved an elderly woman of a gold chain worth Rs. 10,000 in Hennur police station limits on Wednesday night.

Police said Nagaratna was returning home along with her husband, Krishnamurthy, after performing puja in a temple when the miscreants snatched her chain. The couple are residents of HBR Layour, the police added.
