BANGALORE: A lineman, who climbed an electric pole to restore power supply, was electrocuted in Flower Garden in the Cottonpet police station limits on Wednesday night. Police said that Shanmugam had gone to the area to attend to a complaint. He had climbed an electric pole at 9.30 p.m. to restore power, when he came in contact with a live wire and was electrocuted. He fell to the ground and died on the spot, police said. The residents of the area on Thursday held a protest at the Victoria Hospital mortuary demanding action against the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company officials, blaming them for Shanmugam's death. They also wanted BESCOM to pay compensation to Shanmugam's kin and provide employment to one of his relatives. The BESCOM officials promised to pay the compensation amount and consider providing employment to one of his relatives. Shanmugam was working as a temporary staff with the BESCOM since seven years and used to regularly attend to complaints in the area, the police said.
