ADM faces Minister's wrath

Staff Reporter

For deputing a junior to attend meeting called by Dr. A.K. Walia

NEW DELHI: The Additional District Magistrate (North-West), Prashant Kumar Panda, has come under fire and faces disciplinary action for deputing his junior to attend a meeting he was supposed to attend. The Divisional Commissioner, G.K. Marwah, has been handed over a "letter of displeasure'' by Delhi Finance Minister, A. K. Walia for the failure of Mr. Panda to attend the meeting and instead depute a Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Kanjawala who had nothing to do with the proposed meeting.

Dr. Walia had convened a meeting to discuss the demarcation of land for the proposed flyover at the Azadpur T-point. The matter has been pending for the past one year as the Revenue Department has failed to demarcate the area that had been acquired by the authorities after demolition of certain commercial structures. As the area falls under the constituency of the Industry Minister, Mangat Ram Singhal, and the brain behind the project to decongest Azadpur, the meeting had been called to sort out the issue.

It is learnt that as soon as Dr. Walia started the meeting and sought to know who had come, it was informed that Mr. Panda had not come for the meeting and had deputed an SDM for the job.

The lack of seriousness on part of Mr. Panda in dealing with the subject could be gauged from the fact that he did not depute an official who had knowledge about the project.

Mr. Singhal was furious with the official for taking the matter lightly and sought an explanation as to why Mr. Panda had not come despite official intimation. Dr. Walia also viewed the development very seriously and is understood to have taken up the matter with the Divisional Commissioner. It was also decided to issue a "letter of displeasure'' against the official concerned.

"The Revenue Department is in a very bad shape. The officials cannot behave like this. It is one year since acquisition was done and nothing has moved thereby delaying the flyover project. We have decided to take strict action against the guilty official and I will be personally writing to the Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit,'' Mr. Singhal stated.
