RAMANATHAPURAM: In a sudden and surprise development, former Speaker and the DMK leader P.T.R. Palanivel Rajan and a large number of the Sivaganga district-level party office-bearers participated in the second death anniversary of former Minister T. Kiruttinan. M.K Azhagiri, DMK president M. Karunanidhi's son, was cited as an accused in Kiruttinan's killing. Mr. Rajan opened a memorial for Kiruttinan at Kombukaranendhal, his native village, built at a cost of Rs. 15 lakhs. The function was held in the presence of T. Ramaiah, brother of the slain leader. After his brother's death, Mr. Ramaiah joined the AIADMK in the presence of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa about a year ago. Though a strong police force was mobilised at Kombukaranendhal, the function turned out to be a smooth and `friendly' one. Mr. Ramaiah received Mr. Rajan and other DMK cadres. They exchanged pleasantries. The former Speaker paid floral tributes to the portrait of the slain leader. It looked like a reunion of former friends. It is said the DMK headquarters had asked the district office-bearers to attend the celebration. However, the function was over within a few minutes. He did not speak at the function. Though Mr. Ramaiah is still in the AIADMK, none of the AIADMK functionaries turned up at the function. Similarly, the family members of Kiruttinan also did not attend the celebrations.
