Scarred for life

This refers to the article "Scarred for life" (Open page, May 17) on the anguish and anger of women in the wake of the rape of a Delhi University student. Most cases of rape, particularly in rural areas and tribal regions, go unreported.

Worse is the snail's pace at which the trial is conducted, adding to the trauma of the victim and her family. Only speedy justice and stringent punishment can be a deterrent.
