Liquid waste management plant for Palacode

Treated water will be used for irrigation

DHARMAPURI: The implementation of solid waste management on a trial basis in Palacode taluk has now emerged as a success story with a growing demand for its replication in other urban bodies in Dharmapuri. In continuation with it, a liquid waste treatment plant is being established at Palacode at an outlay of Rs. 20 lakhs.

According to the Minister for Information and Publicity and Local Administration, K.P. Anbazhagan, a total of 120 metric cubes of wastewater is being generated per day in Palacode town. Based on Integrated Environmental Management System wastewater will be treated so that it can be used for irrigation.

The treated water would be supplied for irrigation throughout the year benefiting about 1,500 acres of cultivation. He said that land was being identified for construction of the liquid treatment plant, which would be commissioned by the end of next month.

Minister reviews project

Wastewater would be treated according to the requirements of irrigation, he said. The Minister also reviewed the ongoing project of solid waste management being implemented in Palacode and ascertained that there was no environmental degradation or water pollution or fly menace. The Director of Special Village Panchayats, M.P. Nirmala, and the District Environmental Engineer, Dr. Rajasekar, participated.
