KURNOOL: Shortage of complex fertilisers, especially diammonium phosphate (DAP) and other phosphorous based chemicals is feared this season. Single Super Phosphate (SSP) has already vanished from the racks. The shortage was expected because of short supply of phosphoric acid at the national level. As against the total requirement of five million tonnes of phosphoric acid, the domestic supply was only 2.5 million tonnes. As there was delay in importing the chemical due to unsuccessful price negotiations, most of the DAP units stopped production on account of short supply of raw material. Officials said shortage was expected around July or August. Single Super Phosphate (SSP) which is priced at Rs. 168 for 50 kg bag was being sold at Rs. 180 in the black market. The requirement of complex fertilisers for Kurnool district during khariff season is estimated at 72,985 tonnes while SSP was 5,060 tonnes.
The officials said they had no control over supply position except taking steps to check hoarding.
