RAJAHMUNDRY: Shops dealing in electronic goods registered Rs. 1 crore business through sale of air conditioners and air coolers in the last four days in Rajahmundry. People are thronging electronic goods shops in Kotagummam and Main Road from different parts of the city and the adjourning areas. According to an estimate, each shop sold 20 to 30 AC's and 15 to 20 coolers per day during the first week of May. As the day temperatures crossed 40 degrees, the daily sales too soared to 70-100 AC's in the last three days. Targeting the middle class consumers, big giants in the industry like LG, Samsung and Voltas introduced instalment schemes. According to Y. Srinivas of Laxmi Agencies, a leading electronic and electrical business establishment, the sale of 1.5 ton capacity window and split AC's almost doubled in last four days and is expected to increase as `Rohini Karti' -- during which, day temperatures will touch even 50 degrees in Rajahmundry -- sets in from May 26. "Earlier, AC was considered a luxury. But, the rising temperatures are forcing the middle class to go for ACs and big companies have also reduced the prices. The EMI schemes are also attractive," said V.V. Seshaiah, a SBI employee.
