VIJAYAWADA: The long wait for inauguration of the science centre that has come up near Punnami resort at Bhavanipuram might end in the first week of June. Though the Rs 2.34-crore project, an initiative of the Andhra Pradesh Council for Science and Technology (APCOST), was completed a couple of months ago, it could not be opened for the public immediately. "We are waiting for dates from the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for inauguration of the centre. The first week of June should be ideal since the Chief Minister will be in the district to address rythu sadassu," the Krishna district Joint Collector, P. Sampat Kumar, said. The Collector, Navin Mittal, has written to the Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation proposing a take-over of the science centre by the latter to ensure proper maintenance and a decision is awaited. The VMCdonated the land adjacent to the Punnami hotel and the district administration entrusted the construction job to the Rural Water Supply Department.
