KOLLUR (UDUPI DISTRICT): The Managing Trustee of Sri Mookambika Temple, B.M. Sukumar Shetty, on Friday said that a 32-foot-tall idol of the exponent of Advaita philosophy, Sri Shankaracharya, will come up at Kollur. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Shetty said that it would be installed on a 20 feet high "peetha." The height of the structure, including the idol, would thus be 52 feet. The works on the "peetha" and the "idol" would commence after monsoon this year. It is likely to be completed by February 2007. Mr. Shetty said the four "Shankaracharyas" of Dwarka, Sringeri, Puri and Badrinath would be invited to preside over the installation ceremony. He said the temple had taken up many developmental activities. Among the future plans of the temple, a nursing college will come up in a two and half acres area near Kundapur on National Highway 17. The temple is providing midday meals to 20 schools around Kollur.
