  • Project estimated at Rs. 17.52 crores
  • Rs. 4.97 crores set aside for work on the second phase of Kyatanahalli scheme

HASSAN: The implementation of the Honnavalli Lift Irrigation Scheme (HLIS) will soon be a reality in Kanakatte hobli in Arsikere taluk. The project is estimated at Rs. 17.52 crores, said the Minister for Information, B. Shivaram on Saturday.

The Arsikere MLA, A.S. Basavaraj, who took up the issue after getting elected from Arsikere constituency, conducted a Padayatra recently demanding the Government to implement the project.

The Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL) has invited tenders for the work and the scheme is expected to be complete within two years, as it has been taken up on a turnkey basis, said Mr. Shivaram.

The HLIS is being implemented to supply water to various villages of Kanakatte hobli in Arsikere taluk and parts of Tiptur taluk. Water will be pumped from the Tumkur branch canal of Hemavathi Reservoir Project (HRP) at the 9.9 km stretch and will be supplied to 27 various tanks in the area, he said.

Command areas of tanks will also be benefited with the implementation of the scheme, he said. The scheme is being implemented after assessing the technical feasibility of the project and there is no problem in lifting water as feared by some people, he added.

    Delay

On the delay in the implementation of other Lift Irrigation Schemes (LISs) including Huchakoplu, third stage of Kamasamudra and Kachenahalli, he said, CNNL has earmarked Rs. 4 crores each for them and Rs. 4.97 crores been set aside for work on the second phase of Kyatanahalli LIS.

Speaking on the Halebeedu-Madihalli LIS, which will provide water to various villages in Belur taluk, he said the scheme is being examined by technical experts and there are no hitches in implementing the project. The coalition Government is determined to take up every irrigation project, which will help in uplifting the farming community, he added.

The release of Rs. 250 crores has helped the CNNL to clear pending bills to some extent and the Government is thinking of streamlining the financial system to clear the bills for the works, which are being completed behind schedule due to use of advanced technology, he added.
