`Results of bypoll won't affect Govt.'

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: The Industries Minister, P.G.R. Sindhia, said here on Saturday that the results of the byelection to the Lok Sabha from Shimoga and to the Assembly from Chamarajpet would not have any adverse impact on the coalition Government in the State.

Addressing a press conference, he said the administration would remain unaffected as the Government was functioning on the basis of the Common Minimum Programme chalked out by the coalition partners — the Congress and the Janata Dal (S).

Mr. Sindhia said that though his party is a partner in the Government, it has not compromised on its basic ideology, principles and programmes.

To a question, Mr. Sindhia said the Government is capable of handling the situation if naxalites try to take law and order into their hands.

He said the Government would consider the recommendations of the Chiranjeev Singh report on solving the problems of the people residing in areas affected by the naxal activities.
