Arun, Shareefuddin for World meet

HYDERABAD: Arun Kumar and Syed Shareefuddin both from Hyderabad, have been selected in the compound bow category for the World outdoor target archery championships to be held at Madrid, Spain from June 20 to 26. They were picked after the final selection and national ranking tournament at Pune from May 12 to 17, according to Anil Kamineni, Secretary General, Archery Association of India.

The duo leaves for Jamshedpur on May 23 to join a National camp at the Tata Archery Academy, to be conducted by chief coach and former international Sanjeeva Kumar Singh. The pair took part in the European Grand Prix also known as the Golden Arrow championships, at Antalya, Turkey from May 2 to 7. The windy conditions there proved difficult but nonetheless provided valuable experience, which could come in handy in Spain, where the situation will be similar.

The teams:

Men: Compound: N. Arun Kumar, Syed Shareefuddin, Naresh Damor and Sanand Mitra. Recurve: Tarundeep Rai, Robin Hansda, Gautam Singh and Jayant Talukdar.

Women: Compound: Jhanu Hansda, Sakro Besra, Bansara Lindhar, Keizeguno Tenu. Recurve: Dola Banerjee, Chekravolu Swuro, Reena Kumari and Ranu.
