Tension over baby's death in hospital

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Close on the heels of the death of a 32-year-old patient at K.R. Hospital here recently, a three-month-old infant died at Cheluvamba Hospital, the maternity wing of K.R. Hospital, on Saturday morning, leading to tension.

Holding the hospital staff responsible for the death of the boy baby, the emotionally charged father abused the paramedical staff at the hospital and reportedly assaulted a House Surgeon on duty. Police said Raghu, a resident of Mandi Mohalla, and his wife, Suma, brought their child to the hospital for treatment.

When the child breathed its last, Raghu accused two House Surgeons, who were on duty, of negligence leading to the death of his child.

He told presspersons that his child could have been saved had the doctors given timely medical attention. But the doctors at the hospital claimed that the child, which was suffering from a severe viral disease, could not have survived the attack.

Police rushed to the spot and defused the situation by calming Mr. Raghu, even as the mother wept inconsolably. They asked him to lodge a complaint with the appropriate authorities in the hospital.

Even as Mr. Raghu said he will lodge a complaint with the Superintendent of the hospital, the two House Surgeons, who were on duty, said they will file a complaint against Mr. Raghu for assaulting them.
