YSR `remarks' on RTC draw flak from CPI(M)

Special Correspondent

Debts to a tune of about Rs.1,251 crores

TIRUPATI: Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's alleged critical remarks against the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has drawn flak from the Communist Party of India(Marxist).

The district secretary of the CPI(M), K. Murali, dubbed as atrocious and irresponsible the Chief Minister's reported remarks that the RTC has to find its own ways to clear its debts to a tune of about Rs.1,251 crores.

The Chief Minister was quoted as saying that it was no longer the responsibility of the Government to save the RTC steeped in debts and that the RTC employees must be ready to do offer some sacrifice to save their organisation.

"The remarks are highly objectionable and smacked of the Congress party's opportunistic politics of burning the boat after crossing the stream," he criticised.

On the World Bank conditionalities, the CPI(M) leader said that it amounted to a fraud that the Congress which fought the TDP in the last elections on the World Bank plank must now crawl at the World Bank doorsteps for loans.
