TIRUPATI: The World Arya Vysya Mahasabha (WAM) has asked the political parties to render justice to the Vysyas by allotting to them sufficient number of seats in the coming local body polls. The WAM was inaugurated by the Finance Minister, K.Rosaiah, here last year, to be made an international forum for the community. The members plan to tour Europe and America this August to mobilise membership and funds.
Political will
The Confederation of the Arya Vysya Associations of South India took part in the WAM executive meeting, which was held here on Saturday. Addressing mediapersons on the resolutions adopted, its president, Pavan Kumar Darisi, exuded confidence that the community would win any poll and it was only a matter of political will to allot them seats, pointing out that 1,141 of the 1,372 Vysyas who contested various elections recently, from panchayat ward members to city corporators, had won. "If parties ignore us, we will stand in elections on our own," the members said. The WAM convenor, T. Ramakrishna, founder member, G. Bhaskar, and former State president, Majeti Papa Rao, explained WAM's social activities, adding that an office each in Chennai and Hyderabad would be opened soon and a website launched to bring the members of the community scattered across the globe closer. The Tamil Nadu unit president, M.V.Narayana Gupta, announced that a huge public meeting would be held at Salem. The Karnataka general secretary, Parthasarathy, said a hostel would be built in Bangalore to accommodate poor boys, while the Maharashtra president, Eknath Mamde, and his predecessor, D.R.Mukhedkar, explained their plan to set up more `Vasavi clubs'.
