Penukonda bypoll a major challenge: electoral officer

Staff Reporter

High security in 185 `problematic' stations

ANANTAPUR: The Penukonda bypoll has become a challenge to all in view of the recent incidents, the Chief Electoral Officer, M. Narayana Rao, has said.

He has appealed to all political parties to cooperate with the Election Commission for conducting a fair election.

Addressing a meeting convened for political parties here on Saturday, he said all 185 polling stations in the constituency were identified as problematic. Heavy security would be deployed for the smooth conduct of election, including forces from neighbouring States, the CEO said.

Polling staff for the by-election would be drawn from other areas of the district and no employee or official working in the constituency would be entrusted poll-related responsibilities. Mr. Narayana Rao warned that officials found violating EC norms would face stern action.
