Secretariat staff seek interim relief

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Secretariat Association has demanded announcement of interim relief for State Government employees and teachers, in addition to the release of three DA instalments.

In a resolution passed at its 40th annual conference, the association urged the Government to expedite the work of the Pay Commission.

The resolution also urged the Government to release the wages for the 32-day strike period, raising of pension age to 60 years and special recruitment to the last grade in secretariat service.

The conference was inaugurated by the former Chief Minister A. K. Antony at a function presided over by the KSA president, K. Sudevan.

Mr. Antony pointed out that the Government employees, including teachers, secured maximum benefits whenever Congress-led Governments ruled the State.

Even though he had to cut several of their benefits owing to financial crisis, he was happy that he could keep his word and restore the benefits once the financial situation improved.

Referring to the turmoil in the self-financing professional sector, Mr. Antony was confident that the managements of these institutions would have come around to accept the UDF's policy of 50-50 quota in government and management seats.
