THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even though the Common Minimum Programme (CMP) contains schemes that serve the interests of the poor and working class, the UPA Government does not seem to be keen on implementing them, the general secretary of the CITU, Chittabrata Majumdar, has said. He was inaugurating the 39th State-level meeting of the Kerala Gazetted Officers' Association here on Saturday. Mr Majumdar said the UPA Government was rapidly implementing policies that served only the interests of capitalist monopolies within and outside the country. He said the NDA Government led by the BJP had tried to sell off all industries in the country without even a discussion with the trade unions. Even though the UPA Government had announced that profitable industries would not be disinvested, they seemed to be moving in that direction, Mr. Majumdar said. He said it was only due to the pressure exerted by the Left parties that the UPA was forced to implement at least some of the pro-poor policies that had been included in the CMP. He said the Government had not given any effort towards several proposed Bills.
