VISAKHAPATNAM: Mystery shrouds the disappearance of a naval officer from a ship, while at sea, since Wednesday. A Press Information Bureau communique said on Saturday that Sub. Lt. Asish Popli, belonging to the Indian Naval Ship Sharabh, was found missing from Wednesday at sea. The ship, which was on a passage to Visakhapatnam, reported the incident to the Eastern Naval Command headquarters. An intensive search was launched immediately around 75 miles from Visakhapatnam and 25 miles from the nearest land. Naval ships and aircraft from Navy and Coast Guard are conducting the search operation. Sub. Lt. Popli (24) was good at swimming, the communique said. Naval authorities have sought that any information regarding the missing officer be reported immediately to the police or to the Marine Operations Centre at the Naval Base (ph: 2577885, 2577240 or 2592435).
