TAMBARAM: Warning signposts have been put up near the bridge under construction on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam radial road, where an 18-year-old died in an accident on Monday night. Bridgework was taken up two years ago on the radial road near the four-road junction at Pallikaranai. However, the work was abandoned as loose soil hampered its progress. A diversion for motorists was provided after mud was dumped in the marsh area.
Late on Monday night, a motorcyclist, Madhusudhanan, who did not know about the diversion, climbed over the mud wall and lost control of the vehicle. He died a day later.
On Saturday, eight signposts cautioning motorists to "go slow" and "bridge under construction, take diversion" were put up in the centre and roadsides. Also, a brick wall has been constructed to serve as a proper barricade.
