THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The sea continued turbulent along the coast of the State for the second day on Saturday, the waves pounding the shoreline and advancing into several fishing villages. Nearly 15,000 people were evacuated from the affected villages and shifted to relief camps, according to a Government press release. Sixteen relief camps have been opened so far, 12 of them in Thiruvananthapuram district, where the wave action was most vigorous the previous day. Three relief camps were in Alappuzha district and one was in Kasaragode district. Villages in eight of the nine coastal districts in the State have reported high wave action. Families living along the vulnerable stretches of Kollam, Kozhikode, Kannur and Malappuram districts have shifted to the homes of their relatives living farther inland. The wave action was less severe along the coast of Thrissur district. The only coastal district relatively unaffected was Ernakulam, though the sea was rough off its coast also.
