HYDERABAD: A scrap dealer, Istari, on Friday lodged a complaint with Nampally police alleging that his nine-year-old son, Jayadev died due to the negligence of the doctors and staff of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, where he was operated upon on May 19. The boy died at Niloufer Hospital where he was shifted to from S.D. Eye Hospital on Friday. The police booked a case of suspicious death and took up investigation.
Eye injury
According to Nampally Inspector, K. Chakrapani, on May 17, Jayadev reportedly injured his eye while playing near his residence at L.B. Nagar. The boy's parents took him to a nearby hospital. After being admitted there for a day, Jayadev was shifted to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital at Mehdipatnam on May 19. At the hospital, the boy was administered anaesthesia and operated upon. Around 2 p.m., Jayadev's condition deteriorated. He was running high temperature. Later, he was rushed to the Niloufer Hospital in an unconscious state. Sometime after midnight, he died. "The viscera would be sent to AP Forensic Science Laboratory. We are investigating whether there was negligence on the part of doctors or nurses," Mr. Chakrapani said.
Glucose angle
The police would also investigate whether the death occurred due to overdose of anaesthesia. "We are obtaining the medical reports which will bring the facts to light. Another aspect to be ascertained is whether the boy was given glucose soon after the operation or not," the Inspector said.
