Policeman suspended

TIRUCHI: A police constable has been placed under suspension following the escape of a life convict from the government hospital here on Friday.

The police said Kannanbabu attached to the Armed Reserve in the city was placed under suspension on Friday for allowing the life convict, Chinnathambi, to escape from the hospital. Chinnathambi, awarded life sentence in a murder case, was admitted to the hospital a few days ago to undergo an operation.

Man assaulted, dies

A 45-year-old man died after he was allegedly assaulted by six persons at B. Mettur near Uppiliapuram. The police said Sundararaj of B. Mettur was attacked by six persons on Thursday after he questioned them for insulting his brother's wife when she went to a temple nearby. He was taken to the Thuraiyur Government Hospital. He died early this morning when he was being brought home.

Theft at milk society

An unknown person allegedly stole Rs.18,000 in cash on Thursday at milk society at Anampatti near Manapparai.

The matter was reported to the police on Friday by the secretary of the society.

Diabetes clinic

The Tiruchi Diabetes Speciality Centre (TDSC), to be inaugurated in the city on Sunday, will cater to the tertiary care of the diabetic persons, according to M. Shanmugavelu, its Chairman.

The Managing Director, V. Ravindranath, said the TDSC was a full-fledged speciality centres with foot clinic, intensive care unit, ophthalmology and dental unit. An exhibition `Dia carex 2005' would be held for two days from May 28.

Chain snatched

A gold chain was allegedly snatched from Maheswari by an unidentified person while she was going to a marriage hall at Vayalur bus stop. — Staff Reporter.
