MADURAI: Members of the Marumalarchi Labour Front (MLF), a wing of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, observed a one-day fast here on Saturday urging the Government to fulfil demands of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board employees. It sought hike in salary of employees effective December 1, 2001 and permanent employee status for all eligible daily wage labourers and contract employees in the Board. Pointing out that the TNEB required 1,24,600 workers to meet the workload, the MLF demanded the immediate filling up of 42,600 vacant posts. Merger of Dearness Allowance with 50 per cent of salary, scrapping the new pension policy and rejecting the Electricity Act, amended in 2003, were some of the other demands. Employees of the TNEB and party workers participated in the fast, which was inaugurated by M. Bhoominathan, district secretary of the MDMK.
