VIJAYAWADA: The district Collector, Naveen Mittal, was given a guided tour of various works in progress at the Prakasam barrage here on Saturday. The Vijayawada circle Deputy Superintending Engineer, Rajendra Prasad, the Krishna Central division Executive Engineer, K. B. Rajendra Prasad, and the Assistant Engineer, N. Banerjee, explained different aspects of barrage across the Krishna river, the progress of barrage protection works and the canal system into which water flows from the barrage. The Prakasam barrage was a beehive of activity with work on the construction of a cross-bund in front of the scour vents going on in full swing. Sand was brought from the islands upstream the barrage, in barges and dumped into the river to form the cross-bund. After creating dry-bed conditions in front of the scour sluice vents a decision would made on the way the z-sheet pile would be driven into the river bed.
